“Love is like sugar; it may taste sweet but will cause disease”- Mahendran.
Sugar is a sweet-tasting simple carbohydrate that occurs in different organisms. It can usually be found in the stems of sugarcane or the roots of sugar beet and were produced in Northern India during the first century.
Excessive sugar intake is known to affect several health disorders such as Diabetes. This excessive intake can further lead to other consequences such as increased risk of heart problems, reduced blood flow, kidney failure, and the possibility of blindness.
The American Heart Association dictates that no more than 6-9 teaspoons of sugar should be taken daily for adults. Unfortunately, research shows that most Americans consume an average of 19.5 teaspoons of sugar daily. This addiction to sugar is possible because constant intake of sugar triggers a rise in the hormone dopamine, which further increases cravings for sugar. Diabetes can be prevented by reducing sugar intake and adopting a healthy lifestyle. On the other hand, it can be treated by having insulin shots which lowers the blood glucose levels, but this is not a permanent solution.
How to Reduce Sugar Intake
-Replace soft drinks with sugar-free drinks.
-Replace snacks like cookies to fruits and vegetables.
-Read food labels for sugar content
-Reduce the amount of sugar you use in recipes
