Network Security – Sharing Cables

Shared cables in a public place can be a hacker trick!

Only use your own cable connected to a traditional (120V) plug if charging device in a public place.

Sad to say, even charging your device in a public place, such as the airport, is risky today. Public USB charging stations can be hacked by scammers to put malware on your device. And don’t use a casually discarded charging cable – it too may have been modified to deliver malware. Only use your own cable connected to a traditional (120V) plug if charging in a public place. (A hilarious alternative is to use a “USB Condom” which protects your USB cable’s data transmissions. )

You should similarly be cautious with casually available USB thumb drives or flash drives as they may deliver malware to your device when inserted.
