Attack Response – Major Breach

A major cybersecurity breach can affect all of us

Change all passwords when a major breach occurs.

It has become an all-too-frequent occurrence – a highly visible, important corporation or organization has been hacked, revealing the personal information of millions. So what to do?

• Check for Potential Impact(s) – Major organizations whose data has been breached nearly always set up a website for their clients to check if they are affected. Many states require that individuals be contacted by mail if they are a part of a major breach. You may get a state-mandated letter and even if you don’t, check for impact immediately.
• Use Offer of Free Credit Monitoring – Enroll as soon as possible. It doesn’t prevent identity theft but does provide alerts for any other later impacts, should they occur.
• Change your Passwords and Login IDs immediately – Do this for all accounts that might be affected. Definitely add two-factor authentication while you are in this process, if available.
