Importance of Avoiding Procrastination

Procrastination makes easy things hard and hard things harder.

Procrastination is the act of delaying a task or goal. It can be due to indecisiveness or laziness. Unfortunately, this concept is a common habit among students and workers in different industries.

Some common reasons for people maybe due to lack of motivation and interest. It usually occurs to complex tasks that the individual cant comprehend. However, it can also happen to more manageable tasks due to the individual’s short attention span or disorganization.

A study in 2005, found that there are two types of procrastinators, namely active and passive. Passive procrastination is negative. It refers to the indecisive individuals that end up not acting to complete tasks in the end. On the other end, active procrastination is positive. It applies to the individuals who procrastinate only to perform better under pressure. That’s why it’s essential to figure out which kind of procrastinator are you.

Reasons to stop procrastinating:
• Procrastinating causes stress and pressure on the individual. While this may be good for short term solutions, long term stress can cause mental and physical disorders such as cardiovascular diseases.
• Procrastination allows for lesser time to finish the task. This thinking can lead to creating sloppy outputs which can bite you in the back.
• Procrastination is a waste of time. It’s just delaying the inevitable, which could have finished much earlier. This action decreases the overall work productivity of the individual.
