What is Hypnotherapy?

Never give up on someone with a mental illness. When “I” is replaced by “We,” Illness becomes Wellness.

“Use hypnosis not as a cure, but as a means for establishing a favorable climate in which to learn “- Milton Erikson

Hypnosis is a psychotherapy that creates an induced condition of focusing the individual’s attention with positive mental imagery. The state of being hypnotic is trancelike. It can also look like daydream or meditation. Hypnosis is also a heightened state of concentration that aims to eliminate distractions and make the individual more open-minded to different suggestions and treatments. As such, hypnosis is used to treat mental disorders such as depression and anxiety.

The American Psychiatric Association approved hypnosis as a legitimate therapy in 1961. Studies show that hypnosis is effective against pain relief, reducing anxiety levels, and lowering blood pressure. Furthermore, it was also known to be an effective way of sedating patients before their surgery. This concept became evident when a group of women decided to get hypnotized before getting a lumpectomy resulted in less sedation during the treatment. They also reported to have experienced less pain and emotional distress post-procedure.
