Online Security – Social Media Risks

Posting your thoughts on Social Media is risky

Avoid entering online contests/surveys, mailing in warranty cards and excessive posting on Social Media.

The AARP advises of activities to avoid that can lead online scammers to you:
● Entering online contests.
● Mailing in warranty cards.
● Filling out lots of online surveys.
● Posting lots of personal information on Social Media.

AARP further notes that much personal data is simply a consequence of living in the United States. Many public records are available at all government levels: census data, property information, criminal records, and bankruptcies. Private companies can legally gather this information and sell it.
