“Real surrender isn’t a matter of quitting. It is giving in to the Universe and giving way to all that it has to offer.”
On the path to finding inner peace, one of the hardest lessons ever learned would be that of surrender. There are people who would equate it to giving up; but real surrender isn’t a matter of quitting. It is giving in to the Universe and giving way to all that it has to offer.
Why it’s hard to surrender
In the beginning, surrendering can be quite scary! What if your situation goes from bad to worse? Or, what if there’s no one out there to catch you and break your fall? It is the uncertainty of freefalling that drives you nuts. It has made the most risk-averse of us (myself included) hesitate to surrender.
Our stubbornness also gets in the way. We refuse to surrender, thinking that it is blind acceptance of fate. Only when we focus on that fact that it is a voluntary act of the will do we finally get it together. It dawns on us that, in as much as we want to, we cannot control the outcome completely.
When you trust and allow
Once you give in to the process, surrendering can be very liberating! It allows you to let go of trauma from the past and expectations for the future. You begin to trust and actually believe that the Universe is holding you in love.
If you trust and allow the Universe to unfold (as it should), then you’re in for a wealth of wonders. More than you can possibly imagine, there are infinite possibilities and there is enough for everybody. At the heart of one’s spirituality, there is the realization of a higher power greater than you that will look after your best interest. Always.
